About IBPA
The mission of the International Bullying Prevention Association is to support and enhance quality research based bullying prevention principles and practices in order to achieve a safe school climate, healthy work environment, good citizenship, and civic responsibility.
Overview of National Conference
Theme: New Horizons – The Latest in Bullying Research and Prevention. This conference will showcase and present current evidence based practices and resources that will assist school personnel and community practitioners to create safe learning and neighborhood environments that are free from bullying behaviors, thereby nurturing the potential of all students.
Target Audience
A majority of conference participants are public and private school personnel and prevention specialists in non-profit organizations or private practice. All are involved in working towards bullying prevention and intervention plans for schools and individuals who are impacted by bullying. The conference will bring together educators, physical and mental health professionals, policy makers, law enforcement officers, attorneys, researchers, parents, college students, school board members, prevention specialists, and others.
Goals for the Conference are:
· to disseminate the latest developments in research;
· to facilitate an ongoing exchange about issues related to evidence based practices of bullying prevention by individuals with different experiences and viewpoints;
· to provide opportunities to learn how to take research findings to practical strategies for schools, and
· to increase public understanding of bullying behavior and its impact on individuals and school safety.
Conference Schedule
Seventy-five (75) minute presentations will be assigned session times for Thursday, November 6th and/or Friday, November 7th. You must be able to speak on the day(s) and time(s) assigned. Presenters are responsible for arranging for electronic devices necessary for the presentation. If your session is selected, the planning committee will contact you regarding other audio-visual needs.
Selection Process:
The IBPA/IDOE Conference Planning Committee will review and select presentations that demonstrate the greatest potential to contribute to the quality of the conference. The committee will accept Request to Present proposals that represent effective practices, educational and/or mental health interventions, community involvement, parent training, bystander empowerment, liability issues, climate improvement and innovative domestic and international bullying prevention approaches and programs. Proposals will be selected that represent effective practices, proven solutions, or would add to the professional development of our conference participants.
These proposals will be organized by tracks/common topics of interest that foster exchange, debate, and dialogue among conference participants. The tracks for the conference will include: Education; Law – Policy, Liability, and Enforcement; Physical and Mental Health Care; Parent Education and Support; Community Collaboration; International Programs and Current Research.
All submissions will be judged by a volunteer panel of IBPA members on the following criteria: Overall Quality; Timeliness of Topic; Audience Appeal; Well-defined Focus and Learner Outcomes; and the Presenter’s Professional Background and Speaking Experience.
IBPA does not accept proposals for sessions intended to sell a product or service. If your presentation is selected, you will be required to refrain from marketing your products/services during your session. Under no circumstances should a presentation be used as a place for direct promotion of a speaker’s product, service or monetary interest. Presenters must also refrain from overt statements, harsh language or humor that disparages the rightful dignity and social equity of any individual, group, or program. If this requirement is broken, IBPA will reserve the right to refuse future presentations from these speakers.
Notification
You will be notified of the Conference Committee’s decisions for presentations in writing by June 30, 2008. Please do not contact IBPA or IDOE regarding acceptance or rejection of your proposal unless you have not been notified by that date.
